Citibank faces federal litigation in New York's Southern District over its alleged role in a $20 million cryptocurrency romance scam. Plaintiff Michael Zidell accuses the bank of facilitating fraud through wire transfers linked to a fictitious NFT trading platform.

The scheme began in January 2023 when Zidell was contacted via Facebook by 'Carolyn Parker,' who later promoted investments through a platform called OpenrarityPro. Court documents reveal the scam utilized fabricated investment success stories and romantic manipulation to secure transfers.
